Set in one of Chinatown’s oldest and almost-forgotten courtyards, (just off of West Pender Street and close to the Chinese Cultural Centre), GO! transforms one of Vancouver’s many underused, under-lit areas into an illuminated canopy of light and space. Utilizing umbrellas printed with a luminescent map of the Bright Light galleries, video projections, light installations and programmed events, the courtyard becomes a lively gathering space, encouraging participation and play, gatherings and discovery, celebrating neighbourhood and community.

ASIRstudio is committed to interdisciplinary built work research and that explores the interface between cultural identity, art and environmental function. The German office was established in 2002 by Inge Roecker followed by a Vancouver, BC office in 2005. In 2008 Jens Christian Beck and Chris Hunter joined ASIRstudio. The studio has been recognized with several international design awards. Both offices are working collaboratively on projects in Europe, Asia, and North America. We embrace and integrate the culture of our local communities into our work and engage individuals in the active production of community.
Organelle Design, founded in 2007 by Courtney Hunt and Alexander Witko, operates with a simple premise — waste is the most abundant resource our cities have to offer. Our design work begins by re-thinking found objects and wasted resources. We take delight in researching, prototyping, and implementing concepts of reuse at an array of scales from furniture to building. Currently the group is involved with several non-profit projects in Vancouver that include small urban renovations and a series of lighting designs.

As a multi-disciplinary design agency, we translate ideas into immersive experiences, whether it is for retail, brand design, architecture, or public space. Established in 2008 by Sean Pearson and Alyssa Schwann in the Netherlands and Canada, RUF is quickly gaining momentum with high-profile projects in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and South Africa. We work across borders, bringing a wider perspective to a local context.

Urbanvisuals, media artists. Performing the installation Raster Plastic. Activity at the base of the building will generate ripples and colour changes along its surface and move upward to activate a series of illuminated umbrellas covering the courtyard.
